Training Information

Training Requirements for Participants

Climate change downscaler is a web application that runs through Internet Explorer or Google Chrome on Windows-PC (Vista, 7 and 8) and Linux-PC.

For a productive engagement and participation with the climate change downscaler, participants are requested to bring and use their personal computer equipped with the following specifications and programs for running the downscaler at spatial resolution of 30km and 20km.

  • Display size:  larger than 13 inch
  • Display Resolution:  More than 1200x800
  • 2GB of RAM (higher is highly recommended)
  • VGA/HDMI port (for external Monitor)

External monitors will be provided at the training to meet the display requirements of the software.

Features of the Climate Change Downscaler

Main functions of climate change downscaler include the following:

  • Selection of spatial resolutions (30km, 20km);
  • Selection of projection area, prediction period, season, emission scenarios (SRES: Special Report on Emission Scenarios and RCP: Representative Concentration Pathway) and over 30 cmip5 GCMs;
  • Inputting and/or changing of land use, green space ratio and artificial exhaust heat (reflection of future urbanization, greening and energy saving policies on climate projection results);
  • Projection of present and future climatic factors (e.g. the monthly mean temperature, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, atmospheric pressure, daily total insolation, rainfall, etc.);
  • Computation results analysis (e.g. the number of extreme heat days, the number of extreme heat nights, accumulated temperature, hourly rainfall, daily rainfall, etc.);
  • Regional climate projection data can be outputted in the form of CSV.
