Session 2: Status of Climate Downscaling Use

Purpose: Share the current status of, and needs and challenges for, the utilisation of regional climate models and regional climate information obtained from downscaling in Asia and Pacific Countries.

Trainee representatives from various stakeholder groups are invited to present the following topics [no more than 5 slides, 10 minutes]

  • Experiences in performing dynamical downscaling or statistical downscaling
  • Experiences in utilising climate data/informatio​n obtained from downscaling at work
  • Plans or intentions in utilising climate data/information obtained from downscaling at work
  • Needs and challenges for the utilisation of regional climate models and regional climate information

1. Introduction of the group exercises (purposes, modality and expected outputs) [30 min]

  • Function 1: Selecting resolution and configuring simulation domain
    Purpose: learn how to select and set spatial resolution and simulation domains

  • Function 2:  Modifying land-use
    Purpose: learn land use modification methods

  • Function 3: Modifying green coverage fraction and anthropogenic heat
    Purpose: learn how to modify green coverage fraction and anthropogenic heat

    Purpose: learn how to select and configure simulation periods

  • Function 5: Configuring scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions

  • Function 9: Obtaining downscaled data
    Purpose: Learn how to obtain simulation data in a CSV format
