​As part of the series of project activities aimed at supporting ASEAN cities with technical guidelines for preventing plastic and resin pellet losses from informal recycling factories, AIT RRC.AP organised an In-country Stakeholder Consultation cum Expert Review Workshop in Vientiane on 7 April, 2023. The workshop was co-chaired by Mr. Thevalack Phonekeo, Deputy Director Department of Environment and Dr Guilberto Borongan, Director of AIT RRC.AP. In attendance were key stakeholders comprising subject matter experts, and officials from MoNRE, MOIC, VCOMS, UNDP, World Bank, ERIA Academia, NGO's and representatives of plastic recycling industries. The outcome of the situation assessment of plastic pollution from informal recycling was presented along with draft technical guidelines for prevention of plastics and resin pellet losses from informal recycling. Comments, inputs, further discussions on the use case of the guideline were received from key experts, with strong interests by MoNRE​ in owning and implementing the guidelines to support its effort in reduction of plastic leakage into the environment. Field visits were made to a large-scale plastic recycling facility, Green Environment located along the KM32 landfill. ​
