Background

The KnowWaste platform serves as a knowledge-sharing hub to promote sustainable waste management practices across various sectors. While the platform is functional, there is a need to enhance its usability, design, and user engagement to ensure it meets the expectations of modern audiences. To achieve this, we are seeking a UI/UX Designer Intern to contribute fresh ideas, improve the platform's design, and enhance the overall user experience.

Objectives

The primary objective of this internship is to improve the functionality, usability, and aesthetics of the KnowWaste platform and Warm Cluster Website. The intern will work closely with the project team to identify areas for improvement and implement design solutions that align with the platform's mission.

 

Key Responsibilities

The UI/UX Designer Intern will be responsible for:

  1. Platform Review and Analysis
    • Conduct a comprehensive review of the KnowWaste platform and Warm Cluster Website to identify usability and design challenges.
    • Gather user feedback through surveys or interviews (if feasible) to understand user pain points and expectations.
  1. UI/UX Design Improvements
    • Contribute to redesigning the platform's user interface to improve navigation, aesthetics, accessibility, and responsive for all the devices
    • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and mockups for proposed enhancements.
    • Ensure the platform's design aligns with its branding and target audience.
    • propose user-friendly interfaces for displaying data in the form of graphs and charts
  1. User Experience Optimization
  • Simplify user flows to make content and tools easier to access.
  • Improve the visibility and interactivity of key features like knowledge resources and search functionality.
  1. Collaboration and Implementation
  • Work closely with the platform's web development team to ensure the feasibility of design proposals.
  • Provide detailed documentation and specifications for design implementations.
  1. Quality Assurance
  • Test the redesigned platform to ensure all design changes enhance usability without introducing bugs or inconsistencies.
  • Collect feedback on the new design and iterate based on user input.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in Bootstrap 5, HTML, CSS, and responsive web design​
  • Strong portfolio showcasing UI/UX projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and user-centered design.
  • Ability to analyze user behavior and translate insights into actionable design solutions.
  • Creativity and an eye for detail in improving visual aesthetics.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Proactive and eager to learn in a professional environment.

Deliverables

  • Comprehensive review of the current KnowWaste platform and Warm Cluster Website with identified areas for improvement.
  • Wireframes, prototypes, and mockups for platform redesigns.
  • Finalized UI/UX designs ready for developer handoff.
  • Documentation detailing user flows and design specifications.
  • A report summarizing the impact of design changes post-implementation.

Duration

  • Internship Period: 2-3 months
  • Expected Hours: Part-time or full-time (negotiable)

Supervision

The intern will report to IT Specialist and collaborate closely with the web development and content teams.
