Paid Internship - Risk Communication and Message Design Intern
Duration: 3 months (from February to April, 2026)

Background
The internship outputs will feed into the Centre's ongoing work on improving institutional coordination, promoting inclusive communication practices, and enhancing evidence-informed learning, thereby helping cities and communities respond more effectively to environmental, climatic, and public health risks. The initiative combines governance analysis, communication system design, and applied case documentation. It prioritises context-sensitive, low-resource, and last-mile environments, and translates technical knowledge into practical operational tools for local governments and community-based actors.

Final Internship Output Report
The intern will prepare a concise synthesis report that includes: ₋ Summary of key outputs produced, with brief descriptions of each product.
- Rationale and design choices, explaining the approach taken in developing communication materials and tools.
- Lessons learned, highlighting what worked well, challenges encountered, and insights gained throughout the process.
- Recommendations for strengthening early warning and risk communication practices within the Centre's broader initiative.
- A draft template or checklist to support early warning communication planning (e.g., sample alert formats, reporting templates, or community engagement outlines).
- A summary brief distilling core findings and actionable recommendations for use in policy discussions or training activities.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone with a strong interest in early warning communication design, urban risk messaging, and developing clear, accessible content for public safety. They should be motivated to support communication frameworks that strengthen local preparedness and response.
Preferred Background
- Studies or experience in disaster risk reduction, early warning communication, public policy, governance, media, behavioural science, urban planning, or related fields
- Familiarity with disaster risks reduction, early warning communication systems, or community engagement
- Strong abilities in writing, content structuring, and analytical synthesis
- Capacity to translate technical material into clear, practical communication products
Required Qualifications
- Current student or graduate in a relevant field (e.g., disaster risk management, governance, public policy, urban planning, communication, or behavioural science)
- Demonstrated skill in research, analysis, and writing
- Ability to work independently and adapt content for different user groups
