​​​​​​AMUSE Training Program on Waste Management and Sustainable Tourism, Module 1: Introduction to Circular Economy and Sustainability

On July 5, 2024, the Asian Institute of Technology, Regional Resource Center for Asia and the Pacific (AIT RRC.AP) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (GIZ AMUSE) team successfully launched the first module of the AMUSE Training Program on Waste Management and Sustainable Tourism​. The event attracted over 350 participants from across the ASEAN region, highlighting a strong commitment to tackling waste management challenges and promoting sustainable tourism practices.​

The session began with a welcome from Mr. Bishal Bhari, Programme Officer of AIT RRC.AP, followed by insightful remarks from Mr. Phong Giang, Advisor for GIZ AMUSE and 3RproMar programmes in ASEAN. Their opening remarks set a collaborative tone for the event.

The core of the training focused on the "Introduction to Circular Economy and Sustainability," expertly delivered by Dr. Guilberto Borongan, Director, and Mr. Solomon K.M Huno, Senior Programme Officer of AIT RRC.AP, respectively. They explained the key principles of the circular economy and showcased successful case studies from ASEAN countries. The presentation also addressed major waste management challenges in the region and proposed strategies to overcome them.

​​Interactive quizzes and surveys via Mentimeter engaged participants, while the Q&A session facilitated through Webex allowed for dynamic exchanges. A special focus on sustainable tourism practices underscored the need to integrate circular economy principles to mitigate environmental impacts.

The session concluded with a feedback survey, encouraging participants to share their experiences and suggestions for future improvements. Bishal Bhari thanked everyone for their active participation and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in upcoming modules.
