​Unlocking and Future-Proofing Air Quality Management in Asia - A multi-stakeholder consultation workshop for improved multilateral and international cooperation on air pollution​

The UNEP, ESCAP, and EANET jointly organised the “Unlocking and Future-Proofing Air Quality Management in Asia - a multi-stakeholder consultation workshop for improved multilateral and international cooperation on air pollution” from 27-29 May 2024 at UNCC, Bangkok, Thailand (hybrid mode). The workshop aimed to support regional implementation of the UNEA resolution on promoting regional cooperation on air pollution to improve air quality globally and support discussions to “unlock” and “future-proof” air quality management in the region. More than 150 participants including representatives from the EANET participating countries, UN agencies, NGOs, international organisations, and academic institutions participated in the workshop. ​

The proceedings of the workshop (including technical presentations and panel discussions) were focused on foresighting air quality management challenges and identifying technological and policy solutions, understanding transboundary haze pollution in the region, unlocking financial opportunities for air quality management, and the Asia-Pacific Regional Action Programme on Air Pollution (RAPAP) including its activities namely air quality monitoring, data sharing, capacity building, exchanging best practices, and partnership building. 

The participants shared their success stories of effective air quality management, policies and technological solutions for air pollution, and emphasized strengthening international and regional cooperation among UN bodies, countries, international organizations, funding agencies, and other relevant stakeholders. AIT RRC.AP actively participated and contributed to the workshop including taking notes of 2 important sessions namely “Horizon Scanning for Air Quality Management and Future Challenges and Solutions on Air Quality Management”. The UNEP and ESCAP appreciated contributions from the AIT RRC.AP to the workshop. ​
