The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 produced core result of the Agenda 21, which called upon countries to formulate and adopt the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) to build integrated strategies between the various sectors, which are economic, social and environmental policies and plans. Based on this treaty, the Kingdom of Cambodia requested UNEP to support development of the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) in 5th July 2006.
