The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT RRC.AP) organized a half-day training on Ambient Air Quality Monitoring on 7 July 2026 at Dharubaaruge, on the Ministry premises in Malé, Maldives.

The training was delivered by Mr. J. S. Kamyotra, former Director of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India. It seeks to impart to participants how to routinely track outdoor air quality by measuring the types and amounts of pollution present over time. By mastering these measurements, participants learn how to keep the public safe from harmful air, ensure businesses and cities follow environmental laws, and check if efforts to clean up pollution are working.

A total of 16 participants attended the training, representing the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA)​, Meteorological Services, Health Protection Agency, Climate Change Department, Waste Management and Pollution Control Department, Maldives National University, Ministry of Transport, and Housing Development Corporation.

Following the training session, the participants and organizing team visited Air Quality Monitoring Station 1 at Galolhu Saharaa, which is operated and managed by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy. The site visit provided participants with an opportunity to observe the air quality monitoring station and its operations.
