The AIT RRC.AP Participated at the Group Seminar for Asian Countries on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management 2024
27-28 August 2024
Bangkok, Thailand
The Initiative on Fluorocarbons Life cycle management (IFL) has been promoting relevant actions in developing countries to minimize emissions of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) from the cooling sector. Since 2020, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MoEJ) has conducted the Group Seminar on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management for Asian Countries, invited government officials and stakeholders through online platform.
The Group Seminar for Asian Countries on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management 2024, was hosted by Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Ministry of Environment Japan (MOEJ) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 27th – 28th August 2024 at Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. AIT RRC.AP was invited to participate in the event and Climate Change Cluster Head, Dr. Ramesh Soysa represented the Centre. He participated in the Group Discussions for technologies applicable to LRM and promoting diffusion in Asian developing countries and the Group Discussion linking the development of Carbon Credits and domestic policy framework for LRM.
The Seminar was a success, shedding a light on recent updates of international discussion, such as MOP Decision XXXV/11 on life cycle refrigerant management (LRM) under the Montreal Protocol, as well as needs for updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) under the Partis Agreement, and corresponding discussion topics of accessibility of relevant technologies, effective domestic policy framework, and utilization of carbon market mechanisms.
