RRC.AP supported the Best Available Techniques (BAT) project in China and India

04-Oct-2017- 04-Oct-2017

RRC.AP supported the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to implement the Best Available Techniques (BAT) project in two countries, China and India. A mission to Beijing, China was organized between 16 and 19 October 2017 which covered a range of government agencies and think tanks who are involved in, or responsible for the development, selection and/or assessment of BAT to prevent and control industrial chemical pollution. The main target of the mission was to identify how the candidate BATs are gathered, identified, and evaluated. The mission also aimed to identify Chinese experts to join the expert committee from November 2017. Dr. Mara Mendes and Mr. Timothy Lam attended the mission on behalf of RRC.AP together with an OECD representative, Ms. Marit Hjort. Consultations were also carried out with relevant experts and stakeholders during 2-5 October 2017 at New Delhi, India. The experts were from agencies dealing with formulation and implementation of policies and technologies for control and abatement of pollution in India. For a neutral opinion on policies and technologies formulation and implementation, consultations were also carried out with experts of think tanks and academia. A visit was made to a textile industry to consult with industry experts about the policies and technologies they are using for control and abatement of pollution and whether they follow BAT or similar concept in selection of the technologies. Reports of these two countries would be presented at the Expert Group Meeting on Best Available Techniques to be convened in November 2017 in Spain.
