A 3-day national workshop was jointly organised by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) of Mongolia in coordination with UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP IETC) and the AIT RRC.AP on 14-16 December 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The objective of the workshop was to review the draft national and city waste management strategy and action plan from Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar City.

The workshop tabled the Draft National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan documents, and present the pilot demonstration project concept to about 60 participants from national, provincial, administrative officials of Ulaanbaatar City, and a wide range of stakeholders from I/NGOs, academia, and waste management and recycling businesses representing the private sector.

The consultative process during the workshop was able to review the vision, mission, strategic objectives, and action plans for both national and city strategies. The feedback received at the workshop will be incorporated in the final version of the national and city waste management strategy and action plan.

The workshop was a positive step towards securing an approval and ownership from the concerned authorities (i.e. MET, and UB City Mayor's Office) to the strategy development process as well as in implementing these strategies and action plans in the future, while aligning with its new Waste Law Framework 2016.

The workshop also included a capacity building training component on E waste management. The training included presentation of the various methodology on E waste inventory development, and the material/trade/flow chain of E waste in Mongolia, followed by a presentation on the E waste collection, transportation and recovery technologies, and policy and regulatory framework.
