Regional Forum on Climate Change

01-Jul-2015- 03-Jul-2015
AIT, Thailand

The Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC) was jointly organised by the Asian Institute of Technology, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, ASEAN Secretariat, and the European Union on 1-3 July 2015 at the AIT Conference Center, with the theme "Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice and Policy." The Forum's main objective was to create a platform for engaging a variety of stakeholders from the ASEAN region in discussions on the climate change agenda in order to ease the translation of science into practice and policy. The Forum also provided negotiators, policy makers and high-level advisers from ASEAN to benefit from the results of contemporary scientific research to carve climate change related policies in the long term, and offered ASEAN negotiators a venue to build positions of increased ambition prior to the COP 21. The RFCC discussed a wide range of topics related to climate change over several plenary and parallel sessions and side events. From RRC.AP, Mr. Guilberto Borongan co-chaired the Technical Session on "Responses towards low Carbon Development" and presented in the LoCARNet Side Event about "Waste Management in Relation to Climate Change". Also from RRCAP, Dr. Ramlal Verma presented in the Technical Session on "Carbon Cycle and Sequestration" about "Atmospheric Brown Clouds: An Emerging Environmental Issue". Former RRCAP colleagues Ms. Alka Sapkota (now working at the Solid Waste Management Technical support Center, Ministry of Urban development, Nepal) and Ms. Ratri Sutarto (currently employed at Mercy Corps Indonesia) also delivered presentations in technical sessions. Mr. Marco Silvestri, Ms. Woralac Rodsumang and Ms. Vaidehi Deosthali from RRCAP contributed to the Forum organization in collaboration with other teams from different AIT units. With funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, they also supported the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) in its participation, which included five technical presentations on urban resilience issues by some of its members.
