Fourteenth Session of the Working Group on Future Development (WGFD14) of the EANET, 16-18 June, Rayong, Thailand

​The Fourteenth Session of the Working Group on the Future Development (WGFD14) of the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET) was organised on 16-18 June 2015 in Rayong, Thailand. The session was hosted by the EANET Secretariat (UNEP ROAP). Representatives from the EANET member countries namely, Cambodia, China, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in the Session. The Network Center (NC) for the EANET; the United Nations Environment Programme, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP ROAP); Kanazawa University; Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP) were represented. Mr. Kaveh Zahedi, Regional Director and Representative, UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific delivered the opening address on behalf of the EANET Secretariat. He welcomed all the delegates to the Session and highlighted the new global sustainable development goals (SDGs) expected to be agreed by all UN Member States in September 2015 and how these goals can be translated into the work of the EANET. The Session also considered and discussed several important issues on the EANET, such as: (i) the revision of the guidelines on the administrative and financial management for the Secretariat and the Network Center; (ii) the Feasibility study on the expansion of the scope of the EANET; (iii) the Draft Medium Term Plan for 2016-2020; and (iv) the framework document on the arrangements of the Secretariat for EANET, among others. The views and comments from the WGFD14 will be submitted to the IG17 for consideration and decision.
