Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development

21-May-2015- 22-May-2015
Bangkok, Thailand

The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development was organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on 21-22 May at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok. The Forum engaged UN member States and agencies, as well as other institutions and major groups, with the objective of strengthening the institutional framework for sustainable development at the regional level. From RRC.AP, Mr Marco Silvestri and Ms Vaidehi Deosthali participated in the event to showcase the first module of the open E-learning Course on Water Security for Asia and the Pacific, a joint initiative of UNESCAP, UN¬–HABITAT, and AIT . The module was developed by RRC.AP with the work of Dr Ram Lal Verma and Mr Dennis Canullas and will be included in the UNESCAP E-learning facility. A number of computer stations were made available to participants for on-site testing of the E-learning courses, in order to attract the interest of potential students and the involvement of potential partner organizations. The first module of the E-learning course on Water Security provides a step-by-step guide on the development and implementation of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS), and presents a holistic and coordinated approach to water management in line with the Green Growth principles. Other modules are being developed to cover different aspects related to water security, including market opportunities, financial schemes, and integrated management of water resources.
